After the first model tests of a floating wind turbine in a combined wind-wave basin in September 2014, INNWIND.EU-Task 4.2 has again tested a semi-submersible floating platform for the 10MW INNWIND wind turbine in the facility of Ecole Centrale de Nantes, LHEEA.
A new Hardware-In-The-Loop approach was developed by partner CENER (Centro Nacional de Energías Renovables) and additional tests with the rotor built by Politecnico di Milano were performed on the platform model built by the University of Stuttgart. The test results are now being analyzed by more than six European research institutes in order to improve the software simulating the complex dynamic system behavior of floating wind turbines. The task aims at advancing the new floating wind power technology by integrated simulation and design methods aiming at large rotor systems.
