Objectives:
- To define, assess and demonstrate innovative concepts for achieving Lightweight Rotor Targets for very large offshore wind turbines using new aerodynamic and structural design opportunities allowed by high rotational speeds and advanced load control.
- Light weight designs through the synergistic combination of adaptive characteristics from passive built-in geometrical or structural couplings between deformations (e.g. bending-twist and bending-camber coupling) and active control.
The ambitious objectives will be achieved by the following three integrated tasks, addressing respectively the development of new aerodynamic concepts, new structural design concepts and finally the development of smart rotors with active and passive loads control and alleviation capabilities. The tasks constituting this WP will be performed in interaction with each other, to explore synergies at blade and rotor level.
